Session recording with Google Tag Manager.
If Tag Manager is already on your site, you can add GetSiteTape without touching the site itself: one Custom HTML tag does it.

Before you start
Have your snippet ready.
Every site you add to GetSiteTape gets its own snippet, with its key filled in. It is the same one line on every platform.
- A GetSiteTape account, with your site added. The free plan is enough.
- Google Tag Manager already installed on your site
- Permission to publish the container
<!-- GetSiteTape --> <script async src="https://cdn.getsitetape.com/getsitetape.js?sid=YOUR_KEY"> </script>
Your own snippet, with your key in place of YOUR_KEY, is in the dashboard.
Install GetSiteTape with Google Tag Manager, step by step.

Step 1 of 5
Create a new tag
In your container, open Tags and click New. Name the tag so you can find it later, for example GetSiteTape.

Step 2 of 5
Choose Custom HTML and paste the snippet
Click Tag Configuration, choose Custom HTML and paste your GetSiteTape snippet into the HTML box.
<!-- GetSiteTape --> <script async src="https://cdn.getsitetape.com/getsitetape.js?sid=YOUR_KEY"> </script>Illustration: where the snippet goes -
Step 3 of 5
Fire it on all pages
Click Triggering and choose All Pages, then Save the tag. A tag with no trigger never loads.

Step 5 of 5
Visit your site
Open your site in a new tab and click around. Your first recording appears in the dashboard about ten seconds later, and the site's status changes to Installed.

Good to know with Google Tag Manager.
How to check that it is recording, and the things that are particular to Google Tag Manager.
Stuck? Ask us for setup helpSee that it is working
Add ?wsr_diagnostics=true to any address on your site. A small console opens and says what the recorder is doing.
Nothing after a minute?
Open your page's source and search for getsitetape. If it is missing, the snippet was not saved or published. If it is there, check that the address you added in the dashboard is the one you are visiting.
A moment later than the head
Recording starts when Tag Manager fires the tag, which is shortly after the page begins to load. If you can edit your site's <head>, pasting the snippet there starts it sooner.
Consent
If your container waits for cookie consent, give this tag the same condition. GetSiteTape also has a consent mode of its own: switched on in your site's settings, it records nothing until your page calls wsr.consent(true).
Test before you publish
Tag Manager's Preview shows whether the tag fires on your pages before the change goes live.
On another platform?
The same snippet installs anywhere you can paste a script tag. There is a guide for each of these.
