Before you start

Have your snippet ready.

Every site you add to GetSiteTape gets its own snippet, with its key filled in. It is the same one line on every platform.

  • A GetSiteTape account, with your site added. The free plan is enough.
  • A published Wix site with its own connected domain. Wix only runs custom code on those.

Install GetSiteTape on Wix, step by step.

    Open Custom Code

    In your site's dashboard, open Settings and click Custom Code. It is in the Development & integrations section; older dashboards list it under Advanced.

    Add the snippet

    Click + Add Custom Code, paste your GetSiteTape snippet into the code box and give it a name you will recognise, such as GetSiteTape.

    Choose all pages, in the head

    Under Add Code to Pages choose All pages and keep Load code once. Under Place Code in choose Head. Then click Apply.

    Visit your live site

    Open your live site in a new tab and click around. Use the published site, not the editor's preview. Your first recording appears in the dashboard about ten seconds later, and the site's status changes to Installed.

See that it is working

Add ?wsr_diagnostics=true to any address on your site. A small console opens and says what the recorder is doing.

Nothing after a minute?

Open your page's source and search for getsitetape. If it is missing, the snippet was not saved or published. If it is there, check that the address you added in the dashboard is the one you are visiting.

Why "Load code once"

A Wix site moves between its pages without reloading the browser. GetSiteTape follows those page changes by itself, so the snippet only needs to load once per visit.

Nothing recorded yet?

Check that the site is published and that you are visiting it on its connected domain, the same one you added in the GetSiteTape dashboard. Custom code does not run on a free Wix address.
