Before you start

Have your snippet ready.

Every site you add to GetSiteTape gets its own snippet, with its key filled in. It is the same one line on every platform.

    Open Code Injection

    Squarespace has moved this panel more than once. On current sites, open Pages, scroll to the bottom and choose Custom Code → Code Injection. On older sites it is under Settings → Advanced → Code Injection. If neither matches, type Code Injection into the search in your site's menu.

    Paste the snippet into Header

    Paste your GetSiteTape snippet into the Header field. Squarespace adds whatever is in that field to the <head> of every page.

    Save

    Click Save. The snippet is live straight away.

    Visit your site

    Open your site in a new tab and click around. Use a private window, so you see the site as a visitor does. Your first recording appears in the dashboard about ten seconds later, and the site's status changes to Installed.

See that it is working

Add ?wsr_diagnostics=true to any address on your site. A small console opens and says what the recorder is doing.

Nothing after a minute?

Open your page's source and search for getsitetape. If it is missing, the snippet was not saved or published. If it is there, check that the address you added in the dashboard is the one you are visiting.

Checkout pages

Squarespace does not run injected code on its checkout pages, so those are not recorded. The rest of your shop is.

While you are logged in

Squarespace can switch injected scripts off in its own preview while you edit. Check with a private window or another browser.
